-- A panel discussion about the latest trends in communications and what smarter companies are doing to engage their stakeholders --

On June 30, 2005, Edelman hosted a panel discussion titled "Mastering New Media" in Amsterdam to discuss strategies designed to engage audiences through new media, such as blogs, online communities, message boards and text messaging.

Panelists included Dr. David Weinberger, Fellow, Berkman Centre for Internet & Society, Harvard University and blogger extraordinaire; Richard Edelman, CEO of Edelman; Peter Olsthoorn, journalist and blogger, Planet Media a leading publication in the Netherlands and one of the first and most influential bloggers in his country: and Fiona McDonnell, Senior Analyst, Forrester Research, the leading research and analysts firm.

The panel described a communications revolution, where viewer and readership of traditional media -- TV, newspapers and magazines, is declining significantly. The transition from traditional to new media is driven in-part by audiences who are no longer content to be passive recipients of information, adept at ignoring advertisements, and increasingly skeptical of established authorities. The panelists provided details of how companies are responding to this revolution, shifting budgets and commitments from traditional media to new media. They also specifically discussed the growing influence and role of blogs.
