TWO STUDENTS RECEIVE DANIEL J. EDELMAN/PRSSA AWARDS

April 17, 2008, Chicago -- Edelman, the world’s largest independent public relations firm, announced the recipients of the 2008 Daniel J. Edelman/Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Award. The award is based on a nationwide competition and is given to students who are very active in their local PRSSA Chapter.

Winner Brandi Boatner is attending Hawai’i Pacific University working towards her Masters in Communication and International Marketing. She will receive a $1,500 cash award along with a paid three-month internship at one of Edelman’s U.S. offices. Currently, Boatner is Vice President of Advocacy with the PRSSA National Committee, works as Public Relations Coordinator for Pacific Edge Magazine and Outreach Coordinator for Hawaii’s Council on Economic Education.

Brandi likes to say that her life began when Hurricane Katrina hit. She was chosen to participate in an exchange program and won a scholarship to continue her education after her home and university were damaged by the storm. Not knowing the language or land, Brandi decided to move abroad to Germany while her university went under repair. Brandi received her undergraduate degree from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA, May 2006.

"Edelman is such a pioneer for this industry. To receive this award and have an internship with one of the US offices signals a pinnacle in my pre-professional career through my hard work and dedication in PR. I am thrilled to have this wonderful opportunity." Runner-up Meg Roberts is a senior at the University of South Florida, Tampa, SC, majoring in public relations. Director of Member Services for her local PRSSA chapter, Roberts will receive a $500 cash award and also will be offered an interview for an internship with Edelman. Meg fully funded her own education and is heavily involved with her institution. She actively blogs, so feel free to visit and write to her at: www.megroberts.wordpress.com.

“This award recognizes outstanding public relations students who best demonstrate the leadership abilities, strong work ethic, dedication and commitment necessary to be successful in public relations,” said John Edelman, managing director of Edelman’s Global Human Resources department.

The Daniel J. Edelman/PRSSA Award, named for the chairman and founder of Edelman, has been presented annually since 1990 to PRSSA student members who have demonstrated exceptional leadership ability, a commitment to a career in the field and have contributed substantially to PRSSA.
