Edelman today announced the appointment of Jennifer Cohan as chair of the global Consumer practice, the firm’s largest practice area, effective January 2, 2013. Cohan will be based in New York and report to Alan VanderMolen, vice chairman, DJE Holdings and president & CEO, Global Practices. Cohan succeeds Christina Smedley who left the firm in October to go to PayPal.

We intend to renew our focus on consumer public relations by integrating digital, insights and ground-breaking creative for brands as diverse as Unilever’s Dove and Trojan.”
VanderMolen added: “Jen is the perfect fit to lead our global consumer practice having lived and worked in the U.S. and Europe.”
Cohan, currently managing director at GolinHarris International, Inc. in New York, has over twenty years of global experience in consumer marketing public relations. She currently oversees GolinHarris New York’s strategic direction and operations, working across multiple sectors of the business, and serves as an active senior counselor to several clients, including Unilever, OraSure and Olympus. Cohan also has defined experience in external and internal communications, having been part of the development team focused on agency positioning, employee engagement and innovation.
Prior to joining GolinHarris seven years ago, Cohan served as deputy managing director for Cohn & Wolfe’s London operation, where she led business development for the firm’s fastest-growing office and represented clients such as Orange (mobile telecommunications), BSkyB (digital broadcasting), McDonald’s, the Royal Mail and Coca-Cola. She joined Cohn & Wolfe London after serving as consumer practice lead in New York.
