ISTANBUL – Edelman today announced the formal opening of Edelman Turkey, its 66th office. Edelman Turkey, located in Istanbul, was established in April of this year as a start-up organic operation. The office will be led by Serra Türk Büyükfirat, who joined this week as General Manager, Turkey. She will report to Chris Dobson, managing director for Strategic & Emerging Markets, EMEA, who has led the operation until now.
Edelman’s move into Turkey was driven by the increasing focus this dynamic market is receiving from its international network clients. Destined to be a top 10 global economy, Turkey features heavily in Edelman’s growth and investment plan for the EMEA region, not least in the digital sphere. Edelman Turkey’s service offering will mirror that of the global Edelman network, fusing traditional public engagement with an array of digital and mobile services for international and local companies alike.
“Opening in Turkey is a crucial step for Edelman” said Dobson. “Turkey’s rise as a key growth market and a pivotal commercial and geo-political player has been well documented. The demand from our clients for an Edelman presence here has been significant and growing in recent years. I’m therefore delighted that we have become the first truly international network agency in our field to enter the market organically, and that someone of Serra’s stature, experience and multi-sector background will be leading our business. While we have been active since June and have already built up an impressive portfolio of international clients, I know that Serra will help us scale even greater heights in Turkey.”
Büyükfirat was previously Head of Brand & Communications at Türk Ekonomi Bankası (TEB), a prominent banking joint venture with BNP Paribas. At TEB she managed all aspects of corporate communications, strategic brand development, marketing and internal communications. Prior to joining TEB, Büyükfirat oversaw corporate communications at AVEA, a leading mobile network operator in Turkey. She has also held a number of senior agency positions at global firms including Wunderman and Young & Rubicam International. Büyükfirat is viewed as one of Turkey’s leading corporate communications consultants, and has overseen a wide number of award-winning campaigns and brands.
“I am proud to join Edelman and to be leading its Turkish business” said Büyükfırat. “Edelman will bring a new dimension and dynamism to the communications sector in Turkey with its global know-how, expertise in reputation management and digital engagement. Edelman Turkey will introduce global best practices tailored for the Turkish market, serving as a single point of contact to meet its clients’ strategic communications needs.”
