A Day in the Life: Gayatri, Account Supervisor, Atlanta

by

Name: Gayatri Rao

What is your title/practice? Account Supervisor, Digital

How many people are in your office? About 100

In 140 characters, what does your job entail? Providing exceptional client service by staying abreast of the latest digital marketing trends and offering timely, strategic counsel.

How do you commute to work in the morning? I drive to work; I live in the burbs and have a 50 minute commute each way!

What might you find yourself doing around 10 a.m. on a regular work day? I am usually already at meetings by 10:00 am, or I may be catching up 1:1 with my manager.

What are your top two sources of news and how often do you check them?

  • Digital Buzz Blog – This is a great resource for case studies, latest social media tactics, viral marketing examples and more. I get RSS alerts and check them each time an interesting headline comes my way.
  • Huffington Post – I’m an Adrianna Huffington fan. I also like how quickly headlines are updated on this site. This site is also very social media savvy – usually at the forefront of trying something new. I have their iPhone app and look at it at least once a day.

Which social platform do you use most often?

Facebook and Pinterest. While they are both personal accounts, I’d like to share a client Pinterest account – Masterbuilt – Cooking with John McLemore. We are currently running a #PinItToWinIt sweepstakes on this page.

What do you like best about your job?

  • That it allows me to work closely with so many teams across the Edelman network. This year we have integrated a Digital component with almost every client in every division in Atlanta – Consumer, Crisis, Search, Health and Corporate. This has given me the opportunity to work with so many talented people.
  • That my thinking and counsel has the ability to drive serious business decisions on the client end.

How do you think the PR trends in your region differ from other regions? I cannot speak of the PR practice but with Digital, we are still growing. Our clients are still wary of the space and openly challenge the ROI of Social Media. This may not be so up in New York and the West Coast where clients seem to be far more digitally savvy.

What’s one thing you wish you knew as a recent college graduate? I graduated in 2008 with an MS in Marketing. I wish we had more Digital Marketing courses in our curriculum back then.

What’s your favorite part about the Edelman culture? That we are process driven, systematic and very buttoned-up. Edelman employees are the cream of the crop, over-achievers at times; I have yet to meet a “slacker”!

How do you feel that the work you’re doing in PR will #ImpactTomorrow? My work is creating a breed of companies in the southeast that is slowly embracing the power of social listening among all stakeholders; especially customers and employees. This will #impacttomorrow.
