A Day in the Life: Lena, Account Director, Toronto

Name: Lena Beyer

What is your title/practice? Account Director, Consumer Marketing

How many people are in your office? About 120

In 140 characters, what does your job entail? Equal parts of strategy, storytelling, relationship building, time management, budgeting and guidance. Dash of presenting. Pinch of laughter. Mix and serve!

How do you commute to work in the morning? I take Toronto’s Red Rocket – the Toronto subway system.

What might you find yourself doing around 10 a.m. on a regular work day? Typically, this is the time when most of my client calls take place.

What are your top two sources of news and how often do you check them? I usually read the and multiple times throughout the day.

Which social platform do you use most often? I’m a Twitter lover – although often I am more voyeuristic than participatory.

What do you like best about your job? Being creative. When else can you suggest an idea like making a giant sculpture of a video game character out of canned goods…and see it come to life?

How do you think the PR trends in your region differ from other regions? PR in Canada is interesting because we are a small market – we have fewer publications than our neighbors to the south but quite a bit of spill over from the U.S. as well. Our media is also extremely skeptical and it challenges us to push the boundaries of creativity to break through with our clients’ stories.

What’s one thing you wish you knew as a recent college graduate? That the Bowdens books we used to create media lists in college were, in fact, not the industry standard anymore…days of my life I’ll never get back.

What’s your favorite part about the Edelman culture? My favorite part of Edelman is its inherent culture of giving. From our Global Citizenship program to the Canada’s Little Give initiative, giving back truly is a part of our DNA.
