As part of our commitment to Edelman’s 603 Summer of Service, honoring the firm’s 60th anniversary through 60 days of volunteerism across our 60+ offices, 15 members of the San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices, and their family members, were invited to volunteer with GLIDE to make meals for the homeless. GLIDE is a well-known San Francisco organization focused on alleviating suffering and breaking the cycles of poverty and marginalization in the city. Its focus areas include feeding the hungry, offering compassionate health care, empowering women to overcome violence and helping men to break free of violent cycles, and helping house the homeless.
With lively music playing in the background and great conversation to keep us going, the Edelman team worked alongside GLIDE employees and volunteers to make over 1,400 sandwiches and pack up 700 lunches for the homeless in a little under two hours! Each employee played an important role in the process. Whether making sandwiches, adding condiments and cookies, or folding and packing the lunch bags, many hands truly made light work. Since we finished early, we were also able to help with prep work for the next shift!
The Family Volunteer Day was a part of the San Francisco’s ongoing commitment to GLIDE. Every month, five to six employees participate in a breakfast shift during which they serve meals to 400-500 people in need. We are also working with GLIDE to post a blog on their website about our experience and have enjoyed collaborating with them in the name of service.
The offices are incredibly excited for this continued partnership and look forward to going back to GLIDE!
