Lovers of a smooth upper lip will breathe a sigh of relief this week as the month of Movember comes to a close.

Movember – a portmanteau word from moustache and November – has been running in Australia since 2004 and more recently has taken the world by storm. In 2011 alone, the month long whisker war raised more than 120 million dollars with more than 850,000 official Mo Bros and Mo Sistas participating around the globe.

This year, the gauntlet was thrown down by Edelman Hong Kong MD Andy Kirk, who challenged the Edelman Australian team to a battle of the bristles. Our objective was simple – raise funds and spread the word about men’s health – specifically prostate cancer and male mental health.

Of course with the fundraising and health sharing has come the obligatory humiliation of actually trying to grow hair on one’s top lip. Please spare a thought for the brave partners of each of our members who have had to put up with the prickle for the last 30 days.In addition to more than $1000 raised by the two teams, the pictures below will give you an idea of our success, or lack thereof! Please remember that men’s health is everyone’s business so if you have a partner, a friend or a family member of the male species – don’t be afraid to have a chat and encourage them to get a check-up every now and then!

Need some tips for your men? Here are a few you can think about or pass on:

  1. Have an annual physical
  2. Know your family health history
  3. Don’t smoke!
  4. Be physically active
  5. Sleep well
  6. Eat a healthy diet
  7. Stay at a healthy weight
  8. Manage your stress
  9. Drink alcohol only in moderation
  10. Don’t be afraid to have a chat with a friend
