Snapchat added several new features this week, including unlimited Snap viewing time, boomerang-like Loops, Emoji Draw brushes and a magic eraser similar to Photoshop’s content aware feature. This latest round of updates further evolves Snapchat away from its disappearing content roots as Facebook continues to bring heated competition.
Users no longer have to upload photos from the Instagram app. The platform rolled out a new feature this week that allows users to upload photos to their profile via its mobile website. The update comes with heavy restrictions, though. Users cannot upload videos, add filters, or send direct messages. There is also minimal photo editing features compared to the app. Prior to this update, Instagram’s mobile site only allowed users to scroll through their feed.
Pinterest launched its new Lens visual search tool this week to all U.S. users on iOS and Android. The feature allows users to take photos to find related themes and pins using computer vision and image recognition techniques. New updates to the beta version enable QR code scanning and multiple object recognition, allowing users to search content based on real world images and shop in real-time.
