Paris in a jalopy!
It is almost five years since I have lived in Paris now, but this time I saw it with new eyes.
As hosts to a group of colleagues across Europe who came to meet, exchange, battle & bond, we at the Paris office were juggling between client requests, sounding intelligent in discussions & keeping an eye out for our guest’s wellbeing. Through all this the organizing team had slipped in a few hours of get to know Paris & honestly I must say I was tempted to skip & get right back to my computer. But somewhere the lure of this exciting city got the better of me & I decided to join the fun!
Two options: cycle around the city on motorized bikes or get into the deux chevaux (2 horse) cars – actually the name comes from the little Citroen cars of the seventies which originally ran on 2 horsepower!
I actually signed up for the cycle tour but saw the 2 chevaux in their feisty colors all lined up at the Place Vendôme & the romantic side of me got the better of me.
Off we went with young Aurelien and some colleagues from the US to discover Paris in a mode of transport from another time. With its soft top roof & its quirky lines the little green jalopy took us across cobbled streets & main avenues with equal ease.
At traffic lights we were the centre of attention from tourists & local Parisians alike. Tourists because its so quirky & fun & old world; local residents because of the nostalgia we evoked. All in all a new experience – of being stared at so openly ( we were not really the stars the little car was) but we could almost imagine what was like to be in the limelight for 3 full hours.
Paris is a beautiful city & I do not need to sell it to anyone…but seeing it will friends – accompanied by Aurelien – who is actually an aspiring actor (he drives the 2 chevals & shows people Paris his beloved city in between his theatrical assignments)
I am sure our cycling colleagues had as good a time – a different adventure but for me Paris by 2 cheval is a must do on my advise list for friends & colleagues visiting Paris the next time.
