Villas, Cabins and Rental Homes, Oh My!
I was lucky enough this weekend to spend time in the North Georgia mountains overlooking the Toccoa River from a five-bedroom cabin. More importantly, I got to spend three days with my dear friend LaRonda celebrating her 45th birthday!
There have been a lot of articles about the growth in family reunions and multigenerational travel and the use of villas, cabins and rental properties by these groups. But beyond the typical family unit, there's a world of opportunity for marketers and the tourism industry to reach out to niche audiences. And maybe more importantly, reach a new generation of travelers, both Gen X and Gen Y.
My "family" this weekend was an interesting group: heterosexual, homosexual, single, married, African-American, Caucasian, boomers, Gen X... We were quite the strange looking "family" - but we had a great time (it helped we all had separate bedrooms and bathrooms, let's be honest!). Maybe, just maybe, our definition of family travel needs to broaden to meet the needs of travelers in this new millenium.
