In February, Brazil celebrated one of the most extravagant celebrations on earth. As fellow in São Paulo, it was my “duty” to visit Rio and live it in first person. We are proud to share that our efforts now provide 900 children and close to 2,000 villagers with 10,000 liters of safe drinking water every day. Content has always been critical to the nature of our business, whether it was the rehearsed conversations with journalists or the copy of a news release. So what makes this something worth writing about today? Read on... It is PR’s time to lead because the world has changed. Communications can no longer be top-down and controlled; in fact, credibility is conferred horizontally by conversation and the wisdom of the crowd. On October 3, more than 30 Edelman employees from Edelman’s U.S. Executive Leadership Team and our Global Client Relationship Managers visited the Off the Street Club (OTSC) for a pumpkin decorating party and tour of its kid-friendly complex in Chicago’s West Garfield Park. The social power of business is, of course, not new news. Business States can become a reforming force for good. The modern world will only accelerate their role and this transformation. My visit to Jakarta was unlike any other. The city has none of the order and sense of discipline of Singapore, nor does its skyline have soaring buildings by “starchitects” like Kuala Lumpur. Ever wonder if shoe shopping can be good for your career? In Beijing, these two things go hand in hand. As l look to the future, I see five behavioral changes that will be required of us as an industry.
