EDELMAN NAMED AS 2005 “PAN-EUROPEAN CONSULTANCY OF THE YEAR” BY THE HOLMES GROUP
November 08, 2005, New York -- Edelman, the world’s largest independent public relations firm, has been named 2005 Pan European Consultancy of the Year by the Holmes Group. The award cited the firm’s revenue momentum, increased regional reach, senior level talent, culture, intellectual leadership and innovative client program.
In its most recent fiscal year, Edelman Europe saw a 22% jump in revenues to €44.8 million. The growth can be attributed to several new client wins including: Agfa, for public affairs and corporate communications; and Samsung, for its sponsorship of the 2006 Turin winter Olympics; and Nutricia, which retained both Edelman U.K. and JCPR for the Milupa and Cow & Gate brands.
Edelman now has over 400 employees in Europe and has benefited from some key hires including the addition of industry veteran Kate Triggs as head of the European Healthcare Practice. The firm has also relocated key personnel within the market such as European Vice Chairman Michael Burrell to Brussels where he has helped the firm grow its European Public Affairs business. In 2005, the firm’s Global Creative Director, Mitch Markson relocated to London from New York.
Among the successful programs highlighted by Holmes were Edelman Germany’s work for Dove Real Beauty Campaign, Pfizer’s Nicorette (a smoking cessation programme targeting young women) and work for Novartis. In the U.K. the firm has led work on behalf of DuPont and World AIDS Day, and publicity for the National AIDS Trust. Edelman Italy has been handling pan-European public relations for the Lavazza Espresso brand, while the French office has been working for UNICEF of its Brikkado initiative to provide assistance to underprivileged children.
In 2005, Edelman continued its successful integration of Jackie Cooper PR, the leading consumer PR brand in London and SCH Consultants, a leading public affairs consultancy based in Paris, both firms were acquired in 2004. The firm also opened an office in Warsaw, Poland during the year, its first outpost in Eastern Europe.
“Europe remains a difficult market for U.S.-based multinationals, but Edelman has made tremendous progress over the past couple of years, stabilizing its European management team under David Brain, making strategic acquisitions like consumer specialist Jackie Cooper PR in London, adding key staff like healthcare maven Kate Triggs, and building out important practice areas such as public affairs in both the U.K. and Brussels,” said Paul Holmes, Publisher of the Holmes Report. “It has strength in all the major markets, and is an increasing presence in the developing markets of Eastern Europe.”
“We are proud of this distinction as it recognizes the talented staff we have been able to assemble at all levels of Edelman’s European network” said David Brain, Edelman’s European CEO. “The additions of top-tier personnel like Kate Triggs have really helped to solidify our position as a leader within the marketplace. We believe more growth and excellence lie ahead.”
