In 2025, artificial intelligence sits at the center of myriad divides. Across economies and generations, engagement with AI reveals widening gaps in trust, understanding, and opportunity. In markets like Brazil and China, enthusiasm drives rapid adoption and experimentation, while in the U.S., UK, and Germany, skepticism and unease temper its advance.
The most powerful drivers of AI enthusiasm are trust and information, with hesitation rooted more in unfamiliarity than negative experiences. As people use AI more and experience its ability to help them learn, work, and solve problems, their confidence rises sharply. AI is transforming daily life at an unprecedented speed, making it essential for companies to build the conditions for its acceptance by providing training, transparency, and support.
Trust sets the foundation for innovation
Only about half of developing country respondents are frequent AI adopters. Over 4 in 10 resist the increased adoption of AI in Germany, the UK, and the U.S. But with trust, there is an increased likelihood for more enthusiasm.
Ensure benefits of AI are felt across the board
Lower earners — and even close to half of high earners in the US — feel economically vulnerable due to AI. AI messaging and policy needs to speak to opportunity and protect against risk, especially in the workplace.
AI acceptance hinges on the workplace
Positive experiences with workplace AI use cases can transform how much people trust the technology. That trust is essential to the next phase of growth, spearheaded by agentic AI.
Win through peer influence and personal experience
People don’t want to be told what’s so good about the technology from the top, they need to discover it through personal experiences and among peers.
