Students from Ball State University and Louisiana State University receive scholarships for their Leadership and Commitment to Communications

Edelman has awarded the two recipients of its 2016 Daniel J. Edelman and Ruth Edelman Public Relations Student Society of America Awards. Each student will receive $1,500 and a three-month paid internship at one of Edelman’s U.S. offices of their choice.

Receiving the Daniel J. Edelman/PRSSA award, named after the founder of Edelman, is:

  • Hannah Riffle, a junior at Ball State University. She is currently the president of their PRSSA chapter and a marketing and communications intern at the Office of the Ball State President. Riffle is also a volunteer at the Animal Rescue Fund and Girl Scouts of America USA.

Receiving the Ruth Edelman/PRSSA award, named after the late deputy chairman of Edelman, is:

  • JoLena Broussard, a senior at Louisiana State University. She is currently a PRSSA Executive Board Member and has been the director of ImPRint Communications for the past two years. Broussard has also worked closely with Hands Producing Hope, a social enterprise whose mission is to invest in the lives of the women in Costa Rica and Rwanda by offering education, employment and life skills workshops.

The Daniel J. Edelman/PRSSA Award has been presented annually since 1990 to PRSSA student members who demonstrate exceptional leadership ability, a commitment to a career in the evolving communications marketing field and has made substantial contributions to their PRSSA chapter.

“Edelman has paved the way in the public relations and communications field,” said Riffle. “Being chosen for this award is an extremely proud moment for me and I look forward to learning from and working alongside the industry’s brightest minds.”

The Ruth Edelman/PRSSA Award is presented in partnership with Edelman’s Global Women’s Executive Network (GWEN) to recognize student members who have demonstrated achievement in women’s leadership, women’s studies and/or contributions in the field to promote women’s issues.

“I am truly honored to be the recipient of the Ruth Edelman/PRSSA award,” said Broussard. “I am excited to bring determination and dedication to my position as I strive to embody Edelman’s values of excellence, curiosity and courage.”

Students applying for the awards were evaluated on their leadership, career-related achievements and activities, social media/digital presence and recommendations from faculty members and/or industry professionals.
