Shapiro Brings 25 Years of Experience in Financial Services Public Relations and Business Journalism to Edelman

Edelman today announced the arrival of Neil Shapiro as executive vice president, financial communications & capital markets. Shapiro most recently served as managing partner and chief operating officer at Intermarket, a boutique public relations agency focused on financial services and related sectors. At Edelman, Shapiro will advise clients on everything from reputation management and media strategy to special situations and transformative events. He reports to Rich Myers, general manager, financial communications & capital markets and is based in Edelman’s New York office.

“Financial services and asset management firms are demanding more strategic and proactive communications programs,” said Myers. “Neil understands market forces and has the proven ability to help clients successfully devise and deliver compelling messages and stories to the audiences that matter most. We are excited to have him onboard as we continue growing our leading team of professionals.”

During nearly 17 years at Intermarket, Shapiro worked with many of the biggest names in the asset management, brokerage and investment banking industries. For example, he helped develop and execute communications plans around the launches of Charles Schwab’s unique all index mutual fund and all exchange-traded fund 401(k) plans as well as Schwab’s redesigned active trading platform. Shapiro also led brand building programs for the KBW Nasdaq family of financial indexes and the PowerShares KBW suite of financially focused exchange-traded funds. Additionally, he has been an advisor to Artio Global Investors, Julius Baer, D.E. Shaw Group, Deutsche Bank and SunGard.

“I am thrilled to join Edelman at a time of heightened interest and renewed vigor in the financial markets,” said Shapiro. “The team’s expertise, agility and entrepreneurial spirit combined with the breadth and reach of the Edelman platform is a winning proposition for clients.”

Prior to Intermarket, Shapiro enjoyed a distinguished career in business journalism. He served for three years as senior producer of Fox News Channel’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto” and held senior editorial positions at CNBC, CNN and Headline News. While at CNBC, Shapiro was named one of the top financial journalists in the country by TJFR Business News Reporter.
