Thank you Edelman, for the generous community grant to The House Theatre of Chicago, where I am a proud board member! Edelman’s support of The House Theatre, a local theatre company, is going to help them invest in its production of Death and Harry Houdini, which will be remounted this summer.

Death and Harry Houdini is a seminal representation of the company’s aesthetic, featuring live music, bold design and stage magic. The most recent staging of the production broke House box office records, extended twice in Chicago, traveled to Miami and received more nominations for the Joseph Jefferson Theatre awards than any other production this year!

The centerpiece and climax of the play is the performance of the “Water Torture Cell Escape.” To lower Houdini into the cell, The House uses a chain attached to the ceiling on an industrial track.  We are planning on upgrading this equipment, ultimately reducing costs for future productions and increasing safety.

Making this improvement has extra costs that Edelman will help make possible. Edelman’s support will make our upcoming production of Death and Harry Houdini the most successful yet as well as creating additional opportunities for the play’s future.

Edelman, through its culture and Community Grant Program, has created an environment where volunteerism and citizenship are valued.

I hope you can join me for a performance!
