What does a typical day in the life of an intern look like?

Happily there isn’t a typical day... though as an intern the accounts you work on are set, you don't have an actual fixed set of tasks and always have to be ready with helping hands!

The atmosphere at Edelman is well set up to welcome/integrate and make interns feel at home and makes you feel that you are part of the team and company from the start.

Edelman with its wide range of clients is already so diverse and dynamic.

From team meetings, brainstorm sessions, crisis moments to developing campaigns from A to Z: you follow every step.

What three skills do you think are essential to fulfil your role?

Work hard: don't talk the talk, but walk the walk. Be ambitious but put things into perspective. Be sociable: with a good sense of humor.

What do you like best about working at Edelman?

I could list a thousand things but will keep it in two-parts: the employees at Edelman and the clients!

Wow, what a dynamic and helpful place to work! Starting with the teams: it isn’t hierarchical, and the mature integration of the teams means people aren’t siloed and think really broadly.

In my opinion, people also work best when they feel that they can say anything, can think along and where their opinions are accepted. I was already saying this before my internship, and miraculously Edelman is the living proof of the work structure/atmosphere bringing out the best in everyone!

In addition, the clients: it’s hugely motivating to work with large clients and it feels hugely exciting to get daily tasks completed while expanding your network too! A real win win!

What are some of the challenges you face in your day-to-day role?

Time management

Setting priorities and making sure I complete my to do list when things change!

Working at speed but staying accurate. Sometimes you want to check off you list, but when it comes to helping with client work it’s quality over quantity!

What’s been your most memorable moment at Edelman so far?

When I’ve been in the office and seen people catching up or when a colleague has left the business and had tributes paid to them - it is great to see that good friendships that are made at the agency.

What’s your favourite part of a working day?

The moments after my morning monitoring is completed... I start, as a non-morning person, at 8:00, with my eyes still half closed. From 8 to 10 I try to do all the media monitoring for my different accounts.

This keeps me up to date with what's happening in the world (that's what you get with such cool clients) and this also gives me an edge ? – all before I’ve even made myself my first delicious coffee of the day!

How do you stay motivated?

Work / life balance and closing the laptop on time at least once a week. Calling someone online and then both working is fun too.

Sometimes it’s scary to ask for views on your work, but a positive response/feedback can also make you work full throttle forward again. Trial and error works!

What’s your top tip for working from home?

Cleaning my desk every night and changing my workspace every other day and/or week. Upstairs, downstairs, upstairs, downstairs, at my parents, office, upstairs, downstairs, etc.

Did anything surprise you when you joined Edelman?

Since my Edelman internship, I see that the word 'communication' encompasses so much more than the ‘Van Dale’ describes. Nowadays it covers data, creativity, written texts, or pure advertising as well as earned opportunities! To be of service to the client from A-to-Z!

Finally, how do you see your career path developing in the future?

When I start my new adventure, I want to surprise people, make them happy and convince them too!
